Registered Traveler Interoperability Launches. Clear® Lane Accepts First Unisys Card.

Clear®, the largest service provider operating registered traveler lanes at U.S. airports announced today that the first registered traveler holding an rtGO card, provided by Unisys Corporation, has passed through the Clear Registered Traveler lane at the Indianapolis Airport, one of the 7 airports or terminals where Clear is now operating Registered Traveler lanes. This marks the start of successful interoperability between registered traveler programs at all US airports – at no additional cost to the member.

Unisys’s program, called rtGO, has been enrolling travelers since last month at Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Clear members will now be able to use their cards at the Reno rtGO lane.

Under the interoperable system established by the RT service providers, the name of the service provider that issued each member’s RT card and received the enrollment fee for that card is recorded at the RT lanes – but not the name of the individual RT member – so that the service provider operating the lane can charge the issuing service provider a reciprocal interoperability fee intended to cover the cost of the staffing and equipment at the verification lane.

Clear is now enrolling members and operating lanes at JFK, Orlando, San Jose, Cincinnati and Indianapolis International Airports. And, later this month, Clear will open lanes at Newark’s Terminal B. Clear has also been chosen by the Little Rock and Albany airports, where programs are scheduled to launch soon. In addition, Washington, DC (Reagan and Dulles) Airports, San Francisco and Denver International Airports have issued announcements to launch programs this fall.

The registered traveler program allows business travelers and other frequent fliers to receive a biometric identity card that expedites access through airport security checkpoints for an annual fee of $99.95, once they are pre-screened and approved by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

“We were pleased to welcome the first rtGO members at our Clear kiosk today, and we congratulate Unisys on the fine work their team has done in launching Reno” said Steven Brill, Clear’s CEO. “This fulfills the promise of interoperability made possible through the hard work and dedication of private sector registered traveler service providers, as well airports, airlines TSA, and the American Association of Airport Executives, which operates the clearinghouse that enables interoperability. Members can now count on a biometrically-based nationwide network of registered traveler lanes that will surely be the model for similar programs worldwide.”

Clear does not track members' movements, and all data is held under strict controls. The privacy policy and controls are audited regularly by independent privacy auditors. In addition, Clear offers members an identity theft warranty (which serves as an added protection for Clear members' personal information) and provides an independent ombudsman to handle any privacy issues – to date there have been none.

About Clear® Registered Traveler

Verified Identity Pass's Clear Registered Traveler is the largest registered traveler program operating at U.S. airports. Clear has been operational since July 19, 2005, at Orlando International Airport and has over 48,000 members. Clear has launched additional lanes at JFK, San José, Indianapolis and Cincinnati International Airports, and will begin operating a program at Newark's Terminal B soon. In addition, Clear has been selected by Albany International Airport and Little Rock National Airport for programs at those airports, and the company also has an agreement with Toronto Pearson International Airport to operate a Canadian program, working with Canadian authorities. Clear's verification kiosk with shoe scanning technology, co-developed with Verified Identity Pass's partner GE, will allow members, in most instances, to keep their shoes on as they pass through the Clear lanes at the security checkpoint.
