Clear Gives Free Registered Traveler Cards To Military Personnel

NEW YORK (June 26, 2006) Clear, the nation's only operating Registered Traveler program, announced today that for the first six months following the national roll out of the Registered Traveler program, scheduled by the federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to begin this summer, all applicants presenting active duty military service credentials will be given their first year's membership for free

"We think this is an appropriate gesture for us to extend to those who are serving our country," Clear CEO Steven Brill explained. "The last few times I've been in airports, I've been struck by the number of men and women in uniform waiting in security lines," he added, "and this seems like a simple way we can say thanks to them while also building early critical mass for the program."

Brill added, "whether the program for military personnel will be extended beyond the first six months depends on a variety of factors, including whether a system can be set up by which the government will forgo charging applicant vetting fees for those who have already been vetted, and whether a meaningful number of military personnel actually travel enough to make the card worthwhile to them the way it is to business travelers. We don't know whether this makes sense long term, but we know it's worth trying and suspect it's something we will want to continue to do. We expect that it will attract approximately one thousand military people per airport, out of the 30,000 to 80,000 members we expect per airport once the program goes national, and we think that for them this will be a meaningful and appropriate program," Brill concluded.
