Registered Traveler Program Takes Flight at Orlando International Airport. The registered traveler program begins operations at Orlando International Airport.
ORLANDO – The registered traveler program begins operations at Orlando International Airport. The airport is the first in the nation to enter into an agreement with the private sector to expedite the security screening process for registered travelers. The team of Verified Identity Pass, Inc / Lockheed Martin, who were awarded the contract to operate "CLEAR", the registered traveler program at Orlando International Airport, has enrolled approximately 4,000 travelers since it began accepting applications on June 21, 2005.
"This is another example of Orlando International Airport's willingness to try new and innovative approaches to improve customer service. The program will enable us to move more passengers through the airport in a timely manner while maintaining the highest standards of safety and security. The private sector registered traveler program is a unique partnership between GOAA, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the private sector that could become a model for the nation," says C.W. "Bill" Jennings, Executive Director, Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
"We're delighted with the overwhelming response to the launch of CLEAR," said Steven Brill, founder and CEO of Verified Identity Pass, Inc. "And it's great that all of these members -- whose numbers are more than double where we thought we'd be so soon after we began enrollment -- can now use their memberships here in Orlando. We hope this is the beginning of what will be a nationwide program."
"Today's launch is a result of TSA's commitment to engage private industry in the effort to secure America's modes of transportation. TSA offered the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority the opportunity to serve as the first partner to test a partial private sector entry into the Registered Traveler concept," says Justin Oberman, Assistant Administrator for Secure Flight / Registered Traveler, Transportation Security Administration.
Enrolling in the program can be done in three easy steps. Applicants should: log on to www.flyclear.com. From a personal computer, fill out the pre-enrollment information and pay the annual fee of $79.95. They will then need to stop by one of four "CLEAR" enrollment stations at Orlando International Airport to complete the application process and submit fingerprints and iris images. A membership card is issued once the applicant has cleared a security threat assessment by the TSA. The program is expected to expedite the security screening process for not only registered travelers but for all of the 31.1 million annual travelers using Orlando International Airport in 2004. Orlando was recently recognized by J.D. Power and Associates as the number one airport in North America for customer service and number two in the world behind only Hong Kong.
