Clear Opens Express Lane at San Francisco International
Members Use Clear Cards Coast to Coast on SFO-JFK Route. Sign Ups Approach 4,000 in First Month.

 

NEW YORK, Clear®, the leading service provider of registered traveler lanes at U.S. airports, announced today the opening of its express security lanes at both domestic terminals at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Last month, Mayor Gavin Newsom officially opened the Clear enrollment stations at the airport, and applications for membership soared into the thousands. Now, with the launch of the SFO lanes, members who fly between New York and San Francisco can use their Clear cards through security from coast to coast on the heavily-traveled route on United Airlines at JFK Terminal 7 and SFO Terminal 3. SFO is Clear’s eleventh airport. Later this month LaGuardia will become the twelfth to implement Clear.

 

The Clear lanes are open to all travelers out of SFO’s Terminal 1 from 4:30AM-12:00 midnight (B and C) and Terminal 3 from 4:30AM-12:00 midnight (East) and 4:30AM-11:00PM (West). The Clear lanes in the International Terminal will open in mid-October, completing the airport’s rollout of the program – and enabling Virgin America travelers to use Clear on both legs of their coast to coast trips, too.

“Clear saves me time and hassle. Now when I travel coast to coast through JFK and SFO, I’ll get the same fast, reliable experience I’ve been getting at other Clear lanes around the country,” said Doug Cameron, a Clear member.

“With the opening of the SFO Clear lanes, fliers can reduce stress and add much-needed time and predictability to their travel day,” said Clear CEO Steven Brill. “Nearly 4,000 have signed up since last month,” he added, “and now that Clear lanes serve members on daily roundtrip flights between San Francisco and New York at the United Airlines terminals at SFO and JFK, we are seeing how the national Clear network can truly work.”

Clear has now enrolled over 60,000 travelers nationwide. It provides members with access to a separate, faster line through airport security checkpoints by using an identity card containing their encrypted fingerprint or iris images. The annual fee of $99.95 is charged once applicants are pre-screened and approved by the government. Applicants start their enrollment at flyclear.com and complete the process at an enrollment location where their biometrics (fingerprints and iris images) are captured and their identification is validated.

Clear enrollment stations are open in Terminals 1 and 3 on the ticketing level at the San Francisco Airport from 5AM-10PM every day, and at the Hyatt Embarcadero from 7AM-7PM on weekdays and 10AM-5:30PM on weekends.

In addition to San Francisco, Clear cards are currently accepted at Albany, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Little Rock, New York’s JFK, Newark, Orlando, Reno, San José and Westchester County (NY) airports, and soon, LaGuardia. Other airports expected to launch RT programs this fall include Washington, DC (Reagan and Dulles), Denver, and Atlanta, all of whom have issued or, in the case of Atlanta, are about to issue Requests for Proposals. Every airport that has selected a provider in an open, competitive process has chosen Clear.
